VesuviaSonic - Transfixed
(Citation Records)
Technically, you could label the sound of L.A. Based quartet, VesuviaSonic, retro. It certainly contains a healthy blend of rock, soul and hard rock tinged with psychedelia. But the whole thing is punked up enough that you couldn't pinpoint anyone in particular that they sounded like. Beyond that is, the consistent Jimi Hendrix Experience sounding rhythm section that carries the whole thing along. Transfixed detonates with three blistering tracks: "Head-On Collision", "Highway Science" and "Lucky 7" before evening out with the heavy/soulful "Dogtown". The band sustains this momentum throughout the album, for the most part and features some nice lead vocal/backup vocal interplay courtesy of guitarist/singer Jim Jet and bass player/backup singer Mean Jean.
